This is the new design that you may have seen where there are sliding doors that allow for the team members to walk right outside and bring your order to your car. The coolest part about this drive-thru was that since it was inside a training facility, they are not able to bring cars inside, instead they use adult-size tricycles. I can just imagine how much fun it would be riding around that line all day while other team members are training. I was going to take a spin on one of the bikes, but we had to get to our next stop, “The Kitchen”. Not too long ago, a similar sized plush cow showed up at KPRC and was upstairs in the sales department.

How do I apply for a job at a Chick-fil-A restaurant?

The Dwarf House® has been serving handmade pies since the first day. Today, our pie shop is named after Zelma (Murphy) Calhoun, who served as the lead pie maker for more than 40 years. Zelma perfected her recipes for lemon, coconut, chocolate and fried apple and peach pies. Near the end of her career, Zelma was making more than 100 pies a day. We honor Zelma’s work ethic, constant joy, and faithful years to Truett Cathy, Chick-fil-A® restaurants and our guests.

Truett Cathy, who died in 2014 at age 93, visited Hawaii late in life and had such a good time that he created the Hawaiian-themed restaurant Truett’s Luau nine months before he died. Chick-fil-A restaurants remain closed on Sundays to allow the team to rest or worship if they choose. In the side dishes, choose from collard greens to mac/cheese, fried okra, sweet potato souffle, baked potatoes and carrots with raisin salad.

Truett's Grill

Because of Hapeville Dwarf House’s prime location in Atlanta, it is a must-visit restaurant for Chick-fil-A lovers flying into or out of Atlanta or driving through Atlanta on a road trip. And if it weren’t for Chick-fil-A, my picky daughter might starve to death. Even as a teen, it’s one of the only foods she will actually eat. So, needless to say, we frequent this fast food restaurant quite often. If you are not familiar with my Saturday morning breakfast ritual, give this story a read and then come back here to learn more about the history of Chick-fil-A and our tour experience. Everyone wants something good to eat in the mornings, but no one really wants to spend a-whole-lot of time (or has a-whole-lot of time for that matter) making it.

It has a relaxed, low-key vibe, plenty of amazing food options, a fun nightlife scene, all of the shopping you’ll ever need and lots of history. Every trip needs a souvenir (or two) to remember it by, and Starkville is full of local shopping spots that'll make finding them just as memorable. In historic downtown Starkville, there are plenty of unique stores and boutiques selling a variety of clothes and goods.

dwarf house chick fil a

Those handwritten memories were captured and turned into wallpaper in one corner of the self-serve side of the new restaurant. White’s mother, Trudy Cathy became an “operator” of a Birmingham Chick-fil-A franchise at age 19, taking a year off from school at Samford University to run the store. She hired fellow Samford student John White, giving him so many hours that eventually he got the message.

Looking through the thick glass windows there were two people in suits sitting with their backs to us at a stainless-steel counter high table. I saw three Chick-fil-A chefs in black uniforms bringing them different food items to try. We were all whispering about what they may have been trying, was it the next new menu item? This is where they invent all the packaging, bags, signage, and anything else that gets the Chick-fil-A branding.

The corporate headquarters opened in 1984 and Truett walked up the stairs each morning. Before we entered the office, there was a room with a timeline of Truett’s story. I really got the sense that he was ahead of his time when it came to making business decisions. I mean, he was selling Coke out of a wagon at the age of eight to help his family make ends meet. The office is big, I would expect nothing less for the CEO of a billion-dollar company and it has an amazing view of the woods just outside. It is filled with family photos, artwork, books, and sitting in the chair at the desk is a plush cow.

There are also several desserts, including homemade Lemon, Chocolate or Coconut Pie. This is where he developed the pressure-cooked chicken breast sandwich. Now half of the store is a typical Chick-fil-a with its regular menu, and the other half is a diner with an extended menu. My husband ordered a hamburger – yep, that’s right – Chick-fil-A serves burgers at this original store! We almost felt guilty for ordering things that were not typical Chick-fil-A items, but this was such a unique experience and something you can’t do anywhere else. Even if you’re not traveling through Atlanta, make a special trip here just to see the original restaurant.

There's a Chick-fil-A diner in Georgia that's open all night and serves Southern comfort food

The first Chick-fil-A isn’t too far from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the suburb of Hapeville, Georgia. We saw a lot of airline folks coming in to grab a quick to eat and this is definitely a local’s kind of spot. For entrees, of course, they have the typical nuggets and chicken, but there’s a variety of things you can’t find on the usual Chick-fil-A menu.

If you’ve been to one Chick-fil-A, you probably think you’ve seen them all. Like most fast-food chains, the company’s restaurants seem to look alike no matter where you’re located in the country. But there are a few unique Chick-fil-A locations that stand out from the crowd. That means you can get breakfast, lunch or dinner there via dine-in or drive-thru. Plus, there are several other replica locations of The Dwarf House in Georgia you can visit.

Truett's Grill

Macaroni & Cheese, Fried Okra and Cole Slaw are also on the list of sides. For dessert, customers can order homemade Lemon, Chocolate or Coconut Pie. If you choose to dine at the counter service or the drive-thru they will serve all your normal Chick-fil-a menu items such as nuggets, the original chicken sandwich, and waffle fries. We were greeted with smiles from the staff and then we sat on some vintage benches from a CFA restaurant and listened to some captivating stories about the early days of Chick-fil-A.

He led a life that was centered on biblical principles and family. He had always said he was not in the chicken business, but the people business. To compete with Chick-fil-A, fried chicken chain Popeyes, followed by others, introduced a fried chicken sandwich in 2019, starting the Chicken Sandwich Wars. Hapeville’s Dwarf Grill was much smaller than any grill or diner in the 1940s — 512 square feet. It could serve 26 customers at a time, and hungry patrons waiting for a table had to stand out in the sun until founder S. Truett Cathy added a porch in 1957 and it became the Dwarf House.

Music Museum is perfect for music lovers thanks to its collection of more than 200 musical instruments while the Dunn-Seiler Geology Museum houses a diverse collection of rocks, fossils and even a triceratops skull. Chrissy Callahan covers a range of topics for TODAY.com, including fashion, beauty, pop culture and food. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, watching bad reality TV and consuming copious amounts of cookie dough. The project produced several Dwarf House restaurants in the metro Atlanta area between the late 1980s and the early 1990s. The restaurants provide customers “a historical perspective on Chick-fil-A” and are modeled after The Dwarf House. The restaurant has been open over 75 years and has seen multiple renovations over time.

They explore a new city in depth every year and currently base themselves in Las Vegas. There are many other examples of historic references in the remodeled restaurant. In fact, it is actually right next door to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport; the busiest airport in the world. And because it’s right next to the Atlanta airport, you’ll see plane after plane flying right over you as you approach the restaurant. On a recent family spring break trip to Asheville, North Carolina, I thought it would be fun to stop about halfway in Atlanta for a lunch break at the original Chick-fil-A in Hapeville, Georgia. And on the way back, we decided to stop at another one of Atlanta’s themed Chick-fil-A’s Truett’s Luau.

And even if you don't have corned beef lying around, it's worth getting some just for this flavorful and freezer-friendly soup that reheats in only 10 minutes. That's why we wanted to share some recipes that, as Annelle Dupuy-DeSoto of "Steel Magnolias" would say, "freeze beautifully". So that next time you're in need of something quick -- whether it be a casserole, dessert or side dish -- you can find it here. Of course, if you've got a cookbook with a "freezes beautifully" section in it, that wouldn't be a bad place to look either. There are a variety of museums covering a wide range of interests -- from music to geology and everything in-between -- that call Starkville home.

The last thing the family wants to do is alienate those old-timers by ignoring their sentimental connection to the original eatery. Those doors include a three-and-a-half foot arched red door created as a visual joke when the pint-sized Dwarf Grill, founded in 1946, was replaced with a larger restaurant on the same site, in 1967. Working at a Chick-fil-A restaurant is more than a job - it's an opportunity for teamwork and leadership development in a positive, people-focused environment.

And no trip to the Original Dwarf House Chick-fil-A is complete without getting your picture with the statue of Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A. The Dwarf Grill grew quickly and in 1957 they added a chimney and a front porch and changed the name to The Dwarf House. Ten years later in 1967, The Dwarf House was torn down to build a larger restaurant.

When you arrive at the restaurant, you’ll notice two different areas – one that is the ‘typical’ Chick-fil-A experience that you are used to – same menu, ordering at the counter, etc. Cathy was the author of six books and was a committed philanthropist dedicated to making a difference in the lives of youth. He was the recipient of countless awards over the years, both for his business acumen and for his charity. With his wife of 65 years, Jeannette McNeil Cathy, he led a life that was centered on biblical principles and family, and is survived by his sons Dan T.

At places like George-Mary’s, L.A. Green and Reed's offers up the latest trends no matter what your style is, stores like Liza Tye Company have a little bit of everything. If you like to spend your time enjoying the gorgeous scenery of Starkville, you’ll have your pick of activities too. You could also get in some exercise by enjoying a round of disc golf at J.L. King Park, which has a beginner-friendly disc golf course, or Chadwick Lake, which offers more challenging holes. Another unique menu item, Hot Brown, features chicken with cream sauce, cheese and bacon. Customers can also order several sides including Fried Okra, Cole Slaw and Macaroni & Cheese.

When I got home, I put the cow at our kitchen table in Ethan’s seat. That way I would not have to see his empty chair and it would keep people from sitting there. Did you know that their first mascot was a chicken named Doodles? The next stop on the tour was up to Truett Cathy’s office on the top floor.

Dine in the full-service restaurant, so you can order items from the original Dwarf House menu. And save room for a delicious slice of homemade pie from Zelma’s Pie Shop. The original Chick-fil-A in Hapeville, Georgia is open Monday through Saturday from 6 am- 10 pm. They have a full-service restaurant, a counter-service restaurant, and a drive-thru window.
